STORY：1983年、ニューヨーク。幼いときに母親と生き別れ、孤児院で育ったビリーは、音楽プロデューサーのティモシー から、シルクという名の歌手のバックコーラスの職を得る。しかし、ビリーの素晴らしい歌唱力を知ったティモシーは、歌が あまりうまくないシルクの吹き替えとしてビリーを起用する。ある晩、クラブの人気DJのダイスはそのことを見破り、ビリー の才能を買って彼女を自分がプロデュースすると申し出る。やがて、ビリーは着々とスターへの道を歩み、 ダイスと愛し合うようになるが、、、。

[Int. Backstage of a night club. Night. Singing, Billie is walking away with two other back-up singers when Dice, a popular DJ at the club, stops her.]
Dice: You in the hat. Can I talk to you for a second? (To the other singers) Excuse me, ladies, but I got to talk tyo her.
(The two singers walk away as Billie remains with Dice.)
Dice: That was you singing, right?
(Billie nods affirmatively.)
Dice: Oh, man, I knew it. I knew it wasn't Sylk. He's been ghosting you.
Billie: What do you mean, ghosting me?
Dice: Using your voice for Sylk's.
Billie: But I'm having a good time, so.....
Dice: You can't let him do that. You have got a beautiful voice. You can't let Timothy use the best of you.
Billie: What makes you think that's the best of me?
Dice: There's more? There's better?
(Billie smiles.)
Dice: Well, I want some of that. What's your name?
Billie: Billie.
Dice: I'm Dice. Like Lucky Seven.
Billie: I know who you are. I've heard a log about you, Dice.
Dice: Don't believe everything you hear. Come with me. I want to show you something. Let's go.
Billie: Where?
(Dice takes Billie's hand and leads her to the dance floor.)
Dice: I won't bite you. Come on.
[A little later. Ext. Outside the night club.]
Dice: I meet singers all the time, but I never met anybody like you. You really got something special.
Billie: Is this just how you try and soup girls up to get what you want?
Dice: I don't soup girls up.
Billie: Really?
Dice: Really.
Billie: Look, I know you're a fly DJ and I should be honored you want to work with me, but I'm just not into the games.
Dice: I'm not playing games. I'm serious. What's the biggest dream you've ever had?
Billie: I don't know.
Dice: How about playing Madison Square Garden?
Billie: (Sarcastically) Yeah, right.
Dice: If you want that and we work ral hard, we can get it. I want to produce you.
Billie: And Timothy? I don't need problems with him.
Dice: Don't worry about him. I'll take care of it. So, waht do you think? We got a deal?
Billie Yeah.
Dice You won't regret this. I'm telling you. I got to go back. How can I reach you?
Billie: You're Lucky Seven, right? You'll figure it out.

[屋内。ナイトクラブの舞台裏。夜。ビリーがが歌いながら、他の二人のバックコーラスの歌手と歩き去る ところ。クラブの人気DJのダイスが彼女を呼び止める。]
Dice: 帽子のきみ。ちょっとだけ話せるかな?（他の歌手たちに）悪いな、君ら。彼女に話がるんだ。
(二人の歌手が歩き去り、ビリーがダイスと一緒に残る)
Dice: きみが歌っていたんだね？
(ビリーは肯定してうなずく)
Dice: ああ、やっぱり、そうだと思った。シルクじゃないって分かっていたよ。やつは君をゴーストに していたのか
Billie: どういう意味、ゴーストにしているって？
Dice: シルクの代わりに君の声を使うことさ。
Billie: でも、わたし、楽しんでるわ。
Dice: やつにそんなことをさせちゃいけないよ。きみは素晴らしい声の持ち主だ。ティモシーに最高の声 を利用させるんじゃない。
Billie: どうしてあれが最高だと思うの？
Dice: あれ以上に？もっといい声が出るの？
(ビリーは微笑む)
Dice: そうか、それを少し聞きたいな。きみの名前は？
Billie: ビリーよ。
Dice: 僕はダイスだ。ラッキーセブンみたいにね。
Billie: あなたが誰か知ってるわ。いろいろうわさは聞いてるわよ、ダイス。
Dice: 聞いたことを全て信じるんじゃないよ。一緒においで。見せたいものがある。さあ、行こう。
Billie: どこに？
(ダイスはビリーの手をとって、ダンスフロアに導く)
Dice: 噛み付きはしないよ。さあ。
[少し後、屋外。ナイトクラブの外。]
Dice: 歌手にはしょっちゅう会ってるけど、きみみたいな人は初めてだ。きみは本当に特別なものを持っている。
Billie: そうやって、自分の欲しいものを手に入れるために、女の子を口説こうとするの？
Dice: 僕は、女の子を口説いたりしない。
Billie: ほんと？
Dice: ほんとさ。
Billie: ねえ、あなたがイカしたDJだって事は知ってるし、一緒に仕事をしたいといってくれるのは 光栄に思わなければならないけど、でもわたし、お遊びには乗らないの。
Dice: 遊びじゃないよ。僕は真剣だ。君が今まで描いた中で、一番大きな夢はなんだい？
Billie: さあ。
Dice: マディソン・スクエア・ガーデンに出演するってのはどう？
Billie: (皮肉っぽく) ええ、そうね。
Dice: 君がそれを望んでいて、僕らが一生懸命努力すれば、それはかなえられるよ。きみをプロデュースしたい。
Billie: で、ティモシーはどうなるの？彼ともめごとを起こしたくないわ。
Dice: あいつのことは心配するな。僕が何とかする。それで、どう思う？決まり？
Billie ええ。
Dice 後悔しないよ。うそじゃない。戻らないと。どうやってきみに連絡したらいい？
Billie: あなた、ラッキーセブンでしょ？自分で考えて。
