Technical Writing Techniques


1. Sentence Development: Each sentence in a technical document shoukd present one complete and readily understood message.

Example sentences:

1. A Software and Information Science Department workstation consists of input devices, a processing unit, output devices, and secondary storage components.

2. The workstation input devices are a keyboard, a mouse, and at some locations a scanner.

3. The processing unit is a Toshiba processing unit or a similar component.

4. The output devices are a display screen (monitor) and printers.

5. The secondary storage devices include hard and floppy disk drives.

6. All these hardware devices are necessary for efficient workstation oparation.

2. Paragraph Structuring:

When writing a paper, every paragraph needs to be structured ansd developed in a similar style. The information presented must help to develpo and suppot one theme. Paragraph development needs to consider:

Using the example scentences in the previous section, a paragraph is developed below. The first step in writing a paragraph is to prepare an outline. When writing any paper, it is always wise to prepare an outline to serve as a guide for structuring the writing.
